A 24-year-old British-Nigerian woman, Joy Williams, has reportedly died in Thailand after a failed butt augmentation. Joy who was born in Lagos has been living in Thamesmead, London but traveled all the way to Bangkok weeks ago to have a cheap surgery for £2,000 done on her buttocks.Unfortunately, after the procedure which was done on October 14th, her wounds became infected, and she was under a lot of pain. According to the The Telegraph, She was said to have returned to the hospital to remove the silicon injected into her butt, but she died during that operation.
From what one of her friends said, it looks like she had the surgery because she was she wanted to be accepted by the bullies at her school who taunted her over her appearance.
“She was a very bright girl and did well at school. She was a bit shy and quiet and I knew in later years there was something wrong and upsetting her…
“At school she had been bullied over her appearance and she went for surgery on her nose and face. Last time I saw her it was obvious she had had cosmetic surgery. She was fine before, she didn’t need to. She was fine the way she was but she just wasn’t happy. She had no self esteem and I guess she felt she needed to do it. She was just never happy with herself.”Meanwhile, Dr. Sompob Sansiri who carried out the surgery, has been charged with “causing her death by negligence.” The clinic has also been closed and if found guilty, he could face up to ten years in jail.
